Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Gainesville is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Gainesville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Auto had a major oil leak and on short notice Bill took my car in and the job was completed in less than a day. Outstanding in every way from start to finish. Everyone was courteous and professional. Bill's is where I will take my car in the future for any maintenance and repairs. My car was thoroughly inspected and everything was explained to me. Thank you. A++++

Bill is a piece of work who charged me thousands of dollars on my transmission, returned the truck with warning lights saying the transmission was malfunctioning. Then tried to tell me my trucks computer was confused. This guy is a pathological liar and I've spent the last year telling everyone I know how terrible my experience was here.

We got stranded on i75 near Gainesville and had our car Towed here. Bill runs a family owned business, they are very knowledgeable about transmissions, they took the time to run a diagnosis on our vehicle, and explain what our options were. Bill goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, and will go the extra mile to ensure you get a fair quote. Although we didnβt get our car fixed here, Bill let us keep the car there overnight and was just really cool about everything!

My 2014 Journey just rolled over to 100,000 miles. Now I figured I had some more time left/miles. Well no. Took her to Mr. Bill...rebuilt the Trans, new spark plugs, new filters all. New brakes and calipers. New car you say...did not want the payments. Mr. Bill was very informative and also stated I am to bring her in after 200 miles to make sure everything is working properly. I called incessantly but he was always nice and understanding. They are super busy. Bill's Low-Cost Transmission was recommended by 2 mechanic friends. I will recommend for sure. If you have major problems like me...it will take awhile. So be patient π. Thanks Bill π
